Ahhh winter

I woke up today and it was already snowing.
It's supposed to snow all day today and into tomorrow.

It's really quite beautiful.
The snow makes the world is so quiet.
So clean and white.

Winter here is so nice.

Sure, it causes some problems... I decided that it wasn't a good idea to go out and play in Lindstrom because of the weather. It's a bit disappointing, it would have been fun to be there today. But even so...

I love the quiet snowy world.

I will be going out into it tomorrow. Regardless of the weather. There are people I want to see, and things I need to do. I can only hope that other people don't feel the same way. Because when it gets right down to it... I can handle driving in the snow. I'm actually rather good at it. But those other people... They drive too fast and crash. Or they drive too slow and make me ever so angry. If I have the chance to be out there with no interference from others I truly enjoy it. Here's to hoping that they stay home.

COLD

You know what?

Temperatures below zero are really cold.
On Sunday it was nearly 40 in the morning/early afternoon.
Then it got colder.

By Monday morning it was -8 with a -30 wind chill.
Now, I like the cold more than most. But that's bordering on absurd.
When the inside of your nose freezes, you know it's cold.

It's gotten a little better. Today it was 3 outside when I woke up. And luckily the wind was gone. So when it got close to 10 it actually seemed kinda nice. What?

On the upside, we've had some good snow so the world is all pretty and white. But really? -30 wind chill?

That's too much.

And I have a cold now.
Stupid viruses.
Laugh now you microscopic monsters. One day you'll pay.
Oh yes.
You'll pay.

*sniffle* *cough* *cough*

Bastards.

One other thing.

I should mention that on Monday, (I think it was Monday) we tied a record high. 74 degrees. Then come Friday the temperature topped out in the forties.

And today, it might have topped out in the thirties. (I was inside all day playing video games so I don't know for sure.)

Ahhh, Minnesota.

How many other places consistently get over 90 degrees in the summer and well below zero in the winter. It's fun to live in a place that varies it's temperature by over a hundred degrees.

ShoW mE the SnoW!

Mr. W

SNoooooooooooooW!!!

So on Friday morning I woke up to snow!
Not much... just enough to cover grass, plants, trees, cars and roofs.
And it was above freezing out so it was gone by lunchtime.

But it was snow!!

YAY for winter!
(I know that's opposite the normal sentiment, but, what can I say. 15 years on, I still love a "real" winter.

So beautifully cold.
So quietly white.
Without the cold, how can you appreciate the warm?
Come on old man! Bring your worst!

** Paid for by the committee for the appreciation of cold and snow **

Mr. W is waiting for the day that the snow falls and stays.
The silent night.

Whoa.

It looks like we have elected Barak Obama as our next president.
I'm impressed.

And happy.

Thank goodness.
There is no longer any chance that Palin will rise to power this year.
I really hope she just goes away.
And that she does not come back.

Stupid has no place anywhere near the presidency.
And there is no doubt that she is the antipathy of intellectualism.

Again. Thank goodness.
It's over.

My ideology won.
I am happy about that.

So happy.

And so relieved.

Yay!

10.27.2008

Snow! ?

It snowed yesterday!
Not real snow... it melted as soon as it hit anything. But Snow Nonetheless!
It was really windy, and the temperature didn't get any higher than the low forties, so when the clouds decided to shed some moisture, it came down as light rain, or light snow.

SNOW!!!!!!

I love the snow.
I love the cold.
I love the winter here in Minnesota!
I might be broken... people here tell me I'm not supposed to like the cold and snow.
They tell me I'm supposed to complain about it.
They tell me that I am supposed to long for the day that it gets warmer.

I'm not going to listen to them anymore.
I never really did.

I can't wait for the first time I get to slide down an icy sidewalk!
Or make my car spin around in a parking lot!
Or get forced to drive 30mph on the freeway because the weather is so bad that driving any faster is something akin to a death wish.

Woooooooooooooooo!!!!!

SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!

Mr. W is going to go out onto his porch and enjoy the cold snap that is bringing the temperature down into the teens (or low twenties) tonight!

I know you don't understand.
But it's ok. I can teach you.

10.21.2008

Old friends...

I got this email from my mom.
It directed me to a little forum that is for people who went to the K-8 school that I went to from grades 3-8.
Specifically for people who went there when I did. Or years close to it.
So I went there.
And I found...
I FOUND MY BEST FRIEND FROM GRADES 5-10!

That's so cool.
I hope we still get along.
I would love to go visit him.
I guess we'll see how it goes.

(So Hopeful!)

Mr. W

10.17.2008

It's been a long time...

It has.

I know.

It's not that I don't care...
It's just that I'm so busy...
... doing nothing...

So uhhhh.... I dunno...

The sheen has worn off.
My new shiny blog has become old and weathered.
Entropy has taken its toll.

I don't mean to sound cruel but, I've just lost interest.

... not completely!
...

...

... I just don't find myself interested in writing very often. So, there you go. I'll still post. Just not regularly. Unless I change my mind.

--mr. w

It's all over.

Finished.

Complete.

I beat The Force Unleashed.
It's still really cool.
I think I'm gonna play some more even though I finished the story... And the story! It is a fantastic story.

This whole game takes place between episodes 3 and 4. You get to find out what happened after Anakin became Vader and before Luke and Leia became significant.

Awesome.

Awesome.

Take it easy.

A post

I was just poking around the blogs that I try to stay current on, and I realized that I have, once again, not posted for a long time.

The reality is, I write lots of email at work. Also, my job basically consists of typing all day. When I get home I'm not especially enthusiastic about the prospect of typing some more.

So I don't.

Sometimes I send an email or two. Actually I recently happened upon an old friend from college, and I've written several fairly long emails to them. That makes it even less likely that I will make any further contributions to this blog. because, again, TOO MUCH TYPING!!!

But it's Sunday.
So here I am.

I recently decided that I would join a science fiction book club. Then I did.
Now there are a whole bunch of books headed my direction. And to fulfill my obligation to the club all I have to do is buy 2 more books. I think I should do that right away. And then cancel it. Because apparently there is a yearly fee, so if I wait too long I will be charged. And this is exactly the kind of thing I will forget about. So even though I have 9 books headed my way I should buy 2 more... Anyone have any ideas? I used up all of mine on the first 9. By the way, the first nine are:

THE GHOST BRIGADES
by John Scalzi

THE LAST COLONY
by John Scalzi

EMPIRE
by Orson Scott Card

SPOOK COUNTRY
by William Gibson

THE YEAR'S BEST SCIENCE FICTION, TWENTY-FIFTH ANNUAL COLLECTION
edited by Gardner Dozois

STAR WARS®: LEGACY OF THE FORCE: INVINCIBLE
by Troy Denning

WATCHMEN
by Alan Moore; illustrated by Dave Gibbons

SOON I WILL BE INVINCIBLE
by Austin Grossman

THE DARK ELF TRILOGY (3-IN-1)
by R.A. Salvatore

I've never tried reading a Star Wars book before or a Dragonlance/Dark Realms book like The Dark Elf Trilogy, but I'm hopeful that they'll be entertaining.

I suppose whats missing here is something by Neil Gaiman-- I read American Gods and I thought it was fantastic. Is there another Gaiman book like that one? Or really any other sci-fi book that I should check out?

Also, I have been playing the PS3 game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
IT IS AWESOME!
Sure, it has some playability problems, some of the controls are difficult to use correctly. But that doesn't matter. I love Star Wars, and this game fills in a whole lot of what happens between episode 3 and 4. And it is a cool story. You play as the secret apprentice of Darth Vader, a young man who is VERY powerful in his use of the force. And there are many other more familiar characters involved, including Leia, Darth Maul, Shaak Ti, Bale Organa and others. It's really cool, and really fun. I USED THE FORCE TO MAKE A STAR DESTROYER CRASH INTO A PLANET!!!! This game makes you feel POWERFUL!

It's awesome.
Period.

huh? Oh, I'm hungry.
Time to go.

Have fun everybody!

New Post!

Look!
It's a new post!

So that big project I was working on got launched into QA testing just in time for Labor Day weekend. PERFECT!

I finally had a chance to relax and anjoy a weekend without having to go into work! For several weeks leading up to then I ended up working on Sundays because I wanted to make sure that I would not be the reason that we fell behind schedule.

And we didn't!

For Labor Day weekend I spent a lot of time with little Hailey and her family. That was cool. Then on Labor Day itself I went to visit my pal Ryan and his kids. We played some Soul Calibur 4 and had a good time. That was cool too.

Then I had an unremarkable short week at work.

Last weekend I, again, had a chance to hang out with Hailey and her family. But I also went to see Ron White at Treasure Island. He put on a great show. Quite the funny fellow is that Ron White. Even cooler, I had a chance to meet him after the show. I got to shake his hand and personally express my appreciation of his comedy. He was clearly more interested in doing other things, but he was gracious enough to greet and interact with some folks that he really didn't have to. It's cool when famous folks don't take their fans for granted. Now I'm an even bigger fan. RON WHITE RULES!

Ok, I'm hungry enough that I really have to do something about it. Bye blog! I'll see you later!

"When you're down and troubled"

"And you need a helping hand"

I know I don't post here enough. But I've actually been busy recently. I've got a project at work (it's a big one) that has a deadline this week. And the Vice President of my company made it clear that this thing needs to be delivered on time. Pressure sucks.

"And nothing, whoa nothing is going right.
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To brighten up even your darkest nights."

So that's kinda rough. I'm not good at handling stress like this. Fortunately I have all these video games at home. I think tomorrow will see me start playing Mass Effect (Thanks again AD and Chris (and Melly too I s'pose, even though you weren't quite around yet.)!)

"You just call out my name,
And you know wherever I am
Ill come running,
To see you again.
Winter, spring, summer, or fall,
All you have to do is call
And Ill be there,
Yes I will,
You've got a friend."

Last weekend I went out to Lindstrom and helped build a deck. Well, not so much build. I moved a bunch of heavy wood from the front yard to the back, and then I helped cut a bunch of said wood down to the correct size. Then the hungover guy in charge of the deal decided he was sick. Then we left. And I played video games with Mr. S for the rest of the day. Excellent.

"If the sky above you
Should turn dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind should begin to blow
Keep your head together and call my name out loud
And soon I will be knocking upon your door.
You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
Ill come running to see you again.
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you got to do is call
And Ill be there"

I got sunburned when I was out there in Lindstrom. Stupid August sun. You stand out in it for 3 hours and you end up burnt.
HEY SUN!
YOU KNOW WHAT?!
YOU CAN KISS THE FATTEST PART OF MY ASS!
--Insult compliments of Peter Griffin from The Family Guy television show.

"Hey, ain't it good to know that you've got a friend?
People can be so cold.
They'll hurt you and desert you.
Well they'll take your soul if you let them.
Oh yeah, but don't you let them."

Look!
An Anonymous book!
Wow!

Heh...

"You just call out my name and you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again.
Winter spring summer or fall,
all you've got to do is call.
and I'll be there, yes I will.
You've got a friend.
Ain't it good to know you've got a friend.
You've got a friend."

Thank you everyone!! And a big thank you goes out to James Taylor for his song "You've Got A Friend"!! I couldn't'a done it without you Jim!

So disappointing...

Some time back I read an article about how some paleontologist people had found remnants of soft tissue encased in seventy-million year old dinosaur fossils. Now it's been revealed that, upon closer inspection, the "soft tissue" is in fact bacterial slime that dates back to about 1960.

-=/sigh\=-

It would have been so cool to have even that little tiny chance that we could find some dinosaur DNA. Now I'll just have to count on the scientific community's ability to fully decode DNA and gain enough knowledge that they can write up some dino-DNA.

And I don't say that just because I want a dino-burger...

Mr. W

7.30.2008

Not for nothin' but...

Ya know what?

You don't?

Well I don't either.

Geez.

What a waste.

7.27.2008

P.S.

I just found out I can write HTML into these posts...

That's cool!

Whoa...

So I just saw that 44 people have checked out my profile here on blogger...

I suppose that those are mostly repeat views by people I know, but what if it's not? Are there people I don't know who actually read this? That would be cool.

Or... HEY! PEOPLE I KNOW! Do you look at my blogger profile!?

So... Do you?

HUH?!?

 !

7.25.2008

Hey! Know what?

A storm woke me up this morning.

Morning thunder is awesome.

I spent a half-hour laying in bed and enjoying the passing storm through my open window.

(It had a screen.)

Mr. W

Oh... and... Nothing. Part 3.

Hey! Xander's Mom!

So, I take it that you don't appreciate the value of my "Nothing." posts, huh?

What?
They're not good enough for you?

Do you think you deserve more?

Hmmm?

You want some substance?
Yeah?

Fine.

er....
wait...

I've got nothin'.

Wait! There was this BBQ.
You know. Some food. Some people.
There was talking.
And some kids.

Oh, and some food.

Then I left.

The End.

Ok, so fine. I had a great time. I had some good conversations with my buddy Chris's parents, and Chris, and Xander's mom, and Dan and Elicia and some other people. Also, I had a chance to corral little Xander and give him a chance to strengthen his legs. By that I mean I helped him keep his balance as he stood, and leaned, and toppled, and porpoised, and tried to reverse-headbutt me. It was cool. His legs are strong and once he figures out how balance works he's gonna be climbin' trees.

And I'll be there to encourage him to go higher!

HIGHER!

Mr. W

7.14.2008

Did I tell you that they'll loan me some money?

They will.
I seem to have convinced them that I am worthy.
It took a while.
But it should when you do silly things with credit like I did.

Now I have to figure out if I can actually afford the kind of home I want.
I've almost figured that out.

It's one of those times though. One of those times that I wish I made more money.

But who am I to complain. I'm really doing rather well. Heck, I found out that that lenders will give me a chance to spend more money than I can afford... and that's the American dream, right?

Right?

I'm just kiddin'.
I still have faith in the American people's ability to scramble their way out from under the debt they've piled on their heads.

I do.

Kinda.

...
eh...
I'm just rambling now...
so...

G'night,
Mr. W

The King of Kong!

I watched "King of Kong" today.
It's about a man's quest to gain the world record (we're talking Guinness here) high score at the original arcade game Donkey Kong.

I like video games.
I play a video game almost every day.
Today I saw what happens when you become too devoted to video games.

Don't get me wrong. It was good.
For someone interested in video games it is indeed an interesting story. A story filled with nerd drama. Basically, with the exception of one guy, the rest of the guys featured in the documentary are indefatigable and probably unrepentant game nerds.

Their drama took me back to high school. The in-fighting. The back-stabbing. The talking behind each others backs. It was remarkable. Many of these guys are older than me! And I'm not exactly the prime example of a mature 31 year old. But they put my little childish behaviors to shame.

It was funny and sad all at the same time.
But funny in a, "laughing at them" kind of way.

NERDS!!!!!

heh...

nothing to see here...

Mr. W

7.11.2008

That was cool.

So the storm went through.
It cooled things down by about 15 degrees. And it was pretty.
The sky was bright orange because the sun was setting behind the clouds.

It was nice.

Now it's over.
But, it's supposed to be nice tomorrow.

Here's to hoping.

Mr. W

Another storm's a'comin'!

Oh yeah.

C'mon storm!!!

Woooo!!!

Rain is cool. And cooling!

So the other day it was 85 degrees out. And rather humid.
Then it rained.
After the cool little storm was over it was 61 degrees outside.

The temperature went down 24 degrees in about 10 minutes. That's the kind of thing that can happen any time (and often.). It did get back up to 75 that day, but it was a cool front that made the storm, so it wasn't humid anymore, and that made it a beautiful day.

Also, about a week ago, I went to Target. When I went in I noticed that there were some impressive clouds in the west.
I was in Target for about 15 minutes.
After I checked out and got to the doors I noticed that it seemed rather darker than it should be. Then the second doors opened and I saw that it was raining enthusiastically.
So I waited under the eaves.
For 5 minutes.

The rain didn't stop, but it was kinda funny to watch other people scramble for their cars.
And I took off into the rain.
I unlocked the car before I got to it, and I opened up the rear hatch and tossed my bags in and then hid. My car was pointing into the rain so the hatch was good cover. When I decided that it was time to move I ran up to the front door and jumped in the car.

I thought I would just drive away, but as I headed down the parking aisle I decided that the rain was too heavy. So I parked again and enjoyed the driving rain as I sat in my nicely air-conditioned driver's seat with my new 10 Years CD playing. The rain was impressive and there was some good thunder and lightning. Then it let up a bit and I went home.

That's right.

My story went NOWHERE!!!!

HA HA HAHAHAHAHA haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!

Remember! The 9pm show is completely different than the 7pm show!
Try the veal!
Goodnight!

--Mr. W

7.10.2008

I got better!

But then I realized, I was really just right back where I had been.
Not really better.

Just back to good.

And yet, I have to continue to take these GIANT pink pills. I have not yet run the course. I have 3-4 more days to go. But really, this Amoxicillin hasn't been too bad. But my, the pills are large.

Now, back to the 4th!

I went to Lindstrom early in the day and stayed until 3ish. Then I went on back to Eden Prairie and it was time to head out to some fireworks. So I packed up my fireworks and glow-sticks and headed out.

My-oh-my. When you spend enough money at a fireworks store in Wisconsin you can come away with some impressive things. (I wasn't one of the people) ((I bought some Minnesota legal fireworks, so I could be cover for the good'uns.)) So there was lots of booming... some of which had to be done at a nearby schoolyard. It would've been too big for a normal yard. Plus, this way we gave other people a bonus show. And I fired off a bunch of legal/mostly safe fireworks. There were 3 kids running around so I let them tell me what I should light. And, especially after I gave them each a couple of glow-sticks, I think we all had a good time.

Also, there was the city of Eden Prairie fireworks display and I must say, professional fireworks put even the best consumer fireworks to shame. But I suppose... they are professionals, and we nearly managed to hurt some people with a simple 30 parachute mini-mortar thing. So I guess I don't begrudge them their higher quality explosives.

Ok,
Time to go...
Cuz I say so.

Mr. W

7.03.2008

Well, that's not supposed to be yellow.

Lucky me!
I woke up this morning at 4:30!
Then I couldn't really get back to sleep!
And my room was about 65 degrees but my pillow was soaked with sweat!
... that's a fever...

Damn it. I'm sick.
Then I notice that my left nostril feels like it has been completely filled with phlegm soaked cotton.
That sucks.
So I try to blow it out. And get some nasal spray up there.
At 4:45
At 5
At 5:10
At 5:15
Then I actually looked at what came out of my nose.

Yellow?
I've never seen that before...
Even when I have a cold it's white or clear...
What the hell.

Turns out I've probably got myself a sinus infection.
BUT I'VE NEVER HAD ONE BEFORE!!! (Mom may dispute this, but if I don't remember it, it doesn't count.)

And I'll tell ya... this sucks.

NOT FAIR AT ALL!
I better feel ok tomorrow and Saturday or I am going to be SO PISSED!

...

I have all these fireworks...

*pitiful sigh*

I only got 4 hours of sleep last night...
I'm gonna go take a nap.

And a message to the pathogens in my head: GET OUT!!! I HATE YOU SO MUCH!!!!
If I had a shrink ray and a whole lot of weapons this would be over so fast.

Mr. W is sangry (sad + angry) and really hopes that this holiday weekend isn't gonna be ruined.

7.01.2008

I only posted once in June?

Seriously?

Whoa... sorry about that.

I'm gonna do better.

I promise.

Or at least, I'm gonna try.

Yeah.

In closing a haiku:

The power went out
I can't play in the darkness
I'll buy some light bulbs!

The power went out.

I went to the grocery store and when I came back the power was out.

So I put the groceries away and went to Target.

And bought light bulbs.

That is all.

P.S. Mr. W. plans to blog more often. Cuz, it's kinda fun. I just keep forgetting...

6.10.2008

Well that's a fine thing, huh?

So I come on in here and I scream about how I want comments.
And I say I'm not gonna quit writing.

Then I stop writing.

A FINE THING.

So the story is... nothing.
No story.

I get a pass for a couple days because my home machine got infected by spyware/virus/something nasty and it took a couple days to clean it out and get back to Internet. But the Doc says I'm clean now, so I'm back.

(As an aside... if you get an email from me that has an attachment and I didn't tell you I was sending you something... Don't open it (If you run XP). I think I've got this thing clean, but it's better to be safe, than sorry.)

I think I'm going to find out if I can buy a house. Or a townhouse.
I tire of apartment living. Plus the market is way down so it's a good time to buy.

I guess we'll see.

Mr. W needs to invest in higher quality optics.
(Oooohhh! it just started to thunder!!!! I gotta go! (outside)!!)

5.22.2008

I'm gonna be serious for a second.

I came across this article today. I found it to be quite a moving thing.

The article links to this, but I recommend checking out the article rather than jumping straight to the link, just for the context. But I thought that his idea was quite interesting. And that coupled with the way his life went made this whole thing that much more poignant.

It's odd to be able to look in on someone else's life like that... but it's also really cool. And it's made even better by the fact that the display has been posthumously assembled by friends.

Sometimes Internet almost redeems itself for all the horrors it has shown me.

That's not a threat.

I'm not really gonna stop writing this thing.

I like it.

It's fun.

So even if you don't give me comments I'm gonna keep on going.

But like I said before.

I really do get inspired by comments.
So even if you don't have much to say, just say hi. It makes this seem so much more worthwhile when I get a comment or two.

AND HEY!
I KNOW THAT A COUPLE OF YOU OUT THERE ARE ENTERTAINED BY MY RAMBLING AND LINKS! SO SHARE THE LOVE!!!
I COMMENT ON BLOGS THAT I READ!
YOU SHOULD TOO!

Enough yelling.
Now my throat is sore.

I hope you're happy.

Mr. W is not happy.

Alright, so go here and use your flash enabled web browser to listen to track 8 (you have to scroll down the page a bit.) "I Like It, I Love It".

Are you listening to it yet?

Awesome right?

That's just what I was thinking.

I like the muppets.

It's true.
I do like the muppets.

And it turns out that you can find all sorts of Muppet Show clips on youtube. I just spent an hour watching clips of all kinds of stuff from the old show, and... Well...
It was just great.

I recommend checking out the muppet clip for "My Guitar Gently Weeps", you'll have to go search for it yourself if you wanna see it, but I recommend it. Also! Check out Gonzo's motorcycle act. Gonzo is cool.

I would link to this stuff for you, but I want to make you work for it. After all, it's not like these posts write themselves. I work, you work.

And there you have it.

Wait... it's how late?
aw crud...

I'm outtie 5000.
Mr. W

5.13.2008

Well, it's not Monday anymore, is it.

I said we'd talk again on Monday, but it looks like I was wrong about that. Fortunately I have a good reason for missing our appointment. I was out.

No not passed out.
I was out visiting friends. That little Alexander (he's closing in on 4 months old now) is one cute little fellow. He's still quite a fan of grunting. While I was visiting him and his family he was just a fine source of all kinds of cute little baby noises, but especially the grunting. Also I got to have some good food that I didn't have to cook and that is always a good thing.

Then tonight I finally got out to see Iron Man. That is one fine super hero movie. Aaaand it's only the first in what should be a good run of super hero movies coming out this year and in the years to come. We've still got the new Hulk and Batman movies this year. And there are several more that will be coming from DC and Marvel in the near future. Good times for those of us who are fond of such things.

So that's about it for now. I'm going to go update my netflix queue to make sure that the next movie I get is one that I really want instead of just being something I have not seen.

Cheers,
Mr. W

5.10.2008

Even better than the fourth element.

Even though I am really happy with just one Element, it's nice that there are four. (That's a car joke. I own an Element.)((I don't care that you knew that already.)) But then someone had to go and dream up a Fifth Element and thus create a fantastic movie.

If you haven't seen it... well, that just makes me feel sad for you. I'm sorry that you haven't seen it. I suggest that you get it in the highest definition format that you can play, and watch it. I suppose there are one or two caveats to all this. If you don't like sci-fi, you can sod off. But probably skip this movie. If you have a strong distaste for Bruce Willis or Chris Tucker, steer clear. And if you can't handle a brief flash of a pair of human female breasts, grow up. But there is a scene in the movie that bares all, so to speak.

Look! I'm a movie reviewer!
Nope.
Not really. I'm really just an observer. And I'm not a very critical one at that. I watch movies to be entertained, not to notice faults or inconsistencies. Just entertain me. Make it worth my price of admission. Now, admittedly I don't go to many movies. I mostly just rent. So my normal price of admission is about $3. But still. It better be woth three bucks.

The End.

Oh! ... Hello again.

So... I've been away for a while...

How are you doing?

That's good to hear. I've been doing pretty well myself.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

Before we get too far I want to apologize for being away for so long. Because I know that you must have wondered what happened to me.

Exactly.

Mom reminded me that I have not posted for a long time. And then my cousin did too. So I figured they were right.

Yeah, but that's just one reason.

Yeah so it all started because my cable was out for a few weeks and during that time I totally broke my blogging habit while it was still really in it's infancy. All it took was a few weeks and I was almost ready to abandon you like I abandoned my first blog attempt.

I just got myself busy reading instead of using internet and watching TV. So I think I want to continue doing this reading thing which means that I may not be around as much as I was prior to my cable downtime. But we'll see.

Yes.

You're right.

I know it's not fair.

I am being selfish, but sometimes thats just how things have to be.

I'll try.

It's really the best I can do right now.

I'm sorry. But at least for now I'm not going to change my mind.

That's right.

Look, I think we need to end things here for the moment. It's all getting too... too... real.

Yeah I do like to avoid conflict unless I'm the one instigating it.

Mmm hmm...

Look, I'm done for now.
We can talk more later.

Yeah. I promise it will be soon.

Ok, how about Monday?

Good. Monday then.

Take care until then.

I will.

Wanna watch a movie or something?

4.11.2008

Sorry I've been absent...

My cable is out at home so I am cut off from the world.
Well, not totally cut off...
One of my neighbors has an unsecured wireless router that I have taken advantage of once or twice with my PS3's web browser... I know it's not the best idea ever, but I just can't help myself.

All I do is check email... since blogger doesn't seem to want to cooperate with the browser on the PS3...

Oh well.

I'm actually at work right now so this is the end my friends.

Time to Code!

Bye!

"... and it's my birthday." --Eeyore

I just got older again.
One more year come and gone.
And you know what?
It was a pretty good one.
I've had better. But I've also had much worse.
On a scale of 1 - 5 with 1 = bad and 5 = awesome! I would give it a 3.5.
(A full breakdown of the scale is 1 = bad, 2 = meh, 3 = good, 4 = great, 5 = awesome!)

No party on the "day of" this year, so I got myself a good dinner instead. This time I opted for a Caesar salad, a gyro pizza (that's a pizza with gyro meat, tomato, onion, green pepper, feta, mozzarella and something like tzatziki sauce) and tiramisu from Umbria Pizza (the link goes to a pdf, so if you don't have Acrobat or some other pdf reader don't click it). The place is new and this is the first time I've tried them. They're awesome! I think next time I will try the tropical chicken pizza.

So this year I've gotten a few cool presents. So far I've gotten some cash - Thanks Grandma and Art!), a book (Stardust by Neil Gaiman) and a game (Mass Effect)- Thanks Rombachs, and some software to teach me Japanese - Thanks mom! I think there are a few more to come, but even if there's not I got some good stuff.

Ummm...

That's All Folks!
(now imagine the Merrie Melodies music!)

Mr. W has got to do something with one of these gifts... RiGHT NoW!

3.21.2008

Hello world.

"Hello world." that really should have been the title of my first post. You know, as a programmer joke!
Because, I'm a programmer.

It really is a joke.

What? You don't believe me?

Well, you should. I speak from a position of authority here.

I am so an authority!

Seriously, it's a joke because every time you read a book or go take a class to learn a new programming language one of the first lessons is, inevitably, one that teaches you how to make the phrase "Hwllo world." appear on the screen.

It is so funny! You just don't get it.

Look, I understand that a joke loses it's humor value when it has to be explained...

It's just that...

HEY!

It's not my fault that you don't get it! It's not my fault that my frame of reference includes so many things that you've never been exposed to!

IT'S FUNNY!

No, it has nothing to do with that.

No.

No.

You should really just take my word for this.

I don't care if you want to. It's not a question. Just take my word for it!

...
...

Fine. Just change the subject then. What do you want to talk about.

I am not angry.

No, I'm not.

Fine believe what you want, I'm going to go play Overlord.

I JUST GOT IT FROM GAMEFLY TODAY! I HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO PLAY IT AT ALL YET.

Whatever, this isn't going anywhere. I'm done.

Just do whatever you want.

I'm over this, and I'm not going to talk about it anymore.

You'll have to figure that out for yourself.

Mmm-hmm...

Uh-huh...

Yeah fine.

Ok.

...
Sorry about that everyone. I try not to make these things public, but you know how it goes. I wanted to tell you something interesting, but I see I've gone on too long already. I'm just going to call it a night.

Goodnight world.

IT IS SO, FUNNY!!!!

DAMNIT!!!

3.20.2008

Enough with the dream stuff...

So yesterday I wrote about my dream, but I forgot to mention that I went to visit some friends. Mr W got invited to dinner at his friend's house yesterday. Dinner was great, but even better, I got to play with a dog and a baby!

Fred.
Fred is an awesome dog. I'm not sure what his racial heritage is, but I think he's got a bit of bull terrier in him or something. At any rate, he is a cool dog. He's got that fun under-bite that some dogs have, where the canine teeth on his lower jaw stick out farther than the ones on his upper jaw and it creates a cool look for him. Even better though, he digs me. I guess that's not really a surprise since I'm one of those people who likes dogs, probably a bit more than I like most people. Anyway it was an awful lot of fun to visit him.

Also it was fun to see his people. The Carpenters are good people, and the little Carpenter is one cute little fellow. The last time I saw him he was about a day old, and now at 2 months he is significantly bigger than the I remember him. Also he is much more grunty. He has a whole repertoire of sounds he can make now. Most of which appear to be grunts of one sort or another. And a little crying, but he still cries like an infant and not like a baby that has figured out how to use his full lung capacity for screaming. But most importantly, little Alex is one cute little fellow. When he decided that he was done complaining he spent a good long time just being interested in what was going on around him. Lots of looking. And quite a bit of wiggling too.
I had plenty of opportunities to poke at him, and he really took it well.
Oh, and I should mention, he no longer looks like a little tiny old man. Now he looks like a cute little baby.
And he better keep it up.
I expect to have a cute little baby to poke at every time I go visit them. And if he doesn't keep up his end of the bargain, so help me... I am just going to... tickle him or something. And if that doesn't work, then I'll have to move on to his parents. They won't like it, but I know how to tickle real good. So someone will be laughing, even if it's not the baby.

Fair warning.

OH NO!!!!
It's past my bedtime!

Mr. W's pj's are waiting, and they're not patient.
G'night

The other night I had a dream

Now, I know, most people don't really care to hear about dreams that other people have. But, I don't care. I am going to describe my dream anyway. It was a new one to me. I think it's just a variation on the anxiety dreams that I get from time to time, but it was special, because it was a new scenario. Here goes...

I was standing in a dark room. There was enough light to see who else was there, but not enough to see the walls. There were four other people in the room. One was a woman roughly my age, and I knew that she was a friend, and that I wanted to protect her. The other three people were young. Two of them appeared to be in their late teens, a boy and a girl, and the third was in his early teens. As we were standing there talking the three of them were becoming more and more agitated. The older boy was the first to lose control. As he lost control, the teenage girl reached out and slapped his cheek. As her slap landed some kind of black goo came out of his pores and got on her hand. As she pulled her hand away the skin from his cheek went with it. Underneath his skin was all black ooze. It began to drip. The girls hand now had a patch of the boy's skin stuck to it, and instead of blood on the exposed side there was more of the black goo. Obviously disgusted, she shook the skin off of her hand. Then she reached up to her own cheek and scratched. Her skin peeled away, revealing the same black goo that was revealed by her striking the older boy. Seeing this, the three of them began to scream. As their screaming grew louder more of their skin fell away from their bodies, revealing more and more black goo. Then their eyes lit up with red light.
The moment that the first slap landed I told the woman next to me that we needed to start running. But at first we didn't move. We were transfixed by the horror unfolding before our eyes. Then we ran.
But they gave chase.
And we continued to run.
But before long we became tired, and realized that we needed some place to hide.
It was then that we stumbled upon a room that was full of places to hide. And we hid. I turned to the woman and told her that we would be ok, that there was no way they would find us. Then the "children" ran into the room. Now their faces were all covered in the black goo. And it was dripping. And they were looking for us.
This is when I began to feel the terror.
I've never really been frightened by a dream before, but this time...
This time I really felt the fear. I was scared.
The children of the goo began to run out of the room, and so I stood up and moved toward the woman I hoped to protect. But I moved too soon. They came back.
I found myself staring into the faces, well, not really faces anymore, of what had previously been children. Instead of faces there was more black goo. It formed a rough approximation of human faces, but really, they just looked like monsters.
Then it was over.
I woke up.

But even then I was struck by how powerful the terror I felt had been. I was truly afraid. I... I have not felt such fear ever before.

It was terrifying.

I hope that I don't have to go through that again.

That's enough.

Mr. W is done.

3.17.2008

Bleach

Most folks don't care. but I know of one who does...
So this is a heads-up for that one...

The current story arc in Bleach ends at episode 63. And it's a good story.

So, there you have it.

If you didn't wanna know that.... well... that's too bad, cause it's too late now.
(... please don't shoot me with anything painful ...)

Mr. W is thinking about buying body armor

It is time.

Time to blog again.

So here I go...

So I have a couple appointments this week. One will fit me for a little machine to help me sleep. The other is to check up on the meds I take for blood pressure. I'm kinda nervous about the the first one...

It's not the appointment itself that concerns me. It's what comes afterwards that I'm thinking about. If all goes well, this little machine could be the help I need to effect all kinds of positive changes in my life. A panacea, of sorts. But I also find that I can't let myself believe that... It seems like I should have to work harder than that.

I guess we'll see.

Tomorrow it begins.

In lighter news...
You should watch this.
Because:
1. Dachshunds are cool.
2. Dachshunds who can entertain themselves are even cooler.

So, in summation:
My life may change for the better in the near future, and dachshunds are AWESOME!

That's all I've got.

I'm...
I'm gonna go now.

Mr. W is going to go over there now.
(Mr. W also just mistyped his name as Mr. E and noticed that Mr. E would have been a much cooler name. (Cooler due to mysteriousness.))

3.08.2008

Hey! Know what? It's anime night on Adult Swim!
That's right.
Anime night.

So I'm going to watch Bleach and work on this here post.

(I haven't even given it a title yet!)
But it's gonna be a good one, I can feeeel it. (that's feel with 4 e's because that's how much I feel it)

Oop... show's on...

...

...

...

Opening credits sure are long...

That was a good episode of Bleach.
Problem is, it was a cliff-hanger. Ichigo just achieved a new level of strength and he's about to show it off!
THAT SHALL NOT STAND!!!

Luckily I have downloaded the first 200 episodes of Bleach so I can just go ahead and watch episode 55 right now and find out what happens...

in fact...

That is what I'm gonna do.
Video TIMe!!!

...

Now where is that...

...

Ok so now I'm up to episode 59 and there has not been a nice break in the action.
I guess I'll have to keep going... tomorrow... daylight savings time just turned 1:59am into 3:00am and that just sucks.

ABOLISH DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME! It doesn't save anything and it messes up peoples' sleep. Change the clocks by a half hour and leave it at that. Forever*.
(*while maintaining strict adherence to the standard calendar and correcting for the errors inherent in said calendar. Thank you.)

Then take a nap.
IT'S GOOD FOR YOU!
You know you should get more sleep at night. There's just no time.
NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT!!!
For that nap.
"It could be sweet.

Like a long forgotten dream." (-- I took that from Portishead...)

Um... yeah, so...
late,
sleep,
now.

Bye!

3.04.2008

Vut wait, there's more!

Now as part of this limited time offer!

So once again I don't have anything to write about but I want the internet to know about it!!!
Look! You can read American Gods for free! (through the end of March.)
So far I'm through 300 pages and it's a good story.

Hi internet, how's it goin?

This limited time offer is only good for the next 30 minutes so ACT NOW!

Variations on a theme.
(That's not connected to anything else, I just needed to type it.)
So I'm still sitting here and I'm not overflowing with ideas for this blog. I guess I'm just going to leave it at this.

Ha Ha!

I made a looooooong post.

That's cool.

3.03.2008

"I write the B-sides, that make a small portion of the world cry."

(title in quotes due to it being a lyric swiped from Eels.)

I don't post much on this here blog.

That's too bad.

I'm just sitting here wasting all this web space. -=sIGh=-

That may be, but I am posting now, so it's all good, right?

The problem is I don't have any idea for this post, I was just sitting at home watching Intervention on A&E and as I watched a girl addicted to heroin and cocaine go to rehab and then her anorexic/bulimic mother also go into treatment I thought... I SHOULD WRITE SOMETHING ON THE INTERNET!!!

So here I am.
Writing on the internet.

It's like throwing rocks in a river, you know.
Satisfying.
Yet futile.

The river doesn't care about those little rocks, and the splash is fleeting.

"Goddamn right, it's a beautiful day..." -- "Mr. E's Beautiful Blues" - Eels

So some doctors told me that I don't sleep like I'm supposed to, and this is likely something that has been going on for quite some time. So effectively, the 8 hours of sleep I've been getting at night has had the quality of 4-6 real hours of sleep... I FORGOT HOW TO SLEEP!!!

Unbelievable.

Not really... it's a regularly diagnosed condition that affects lots of people.

It's handy though right... I just have to look at it this way...
By many measures, I have been successful for the last 7 years. And it appears that for at least the last half of it I have been basically sleep deprived. Neat.

"Now witness the power of this fully armed and operational battle station." - Palpatine

Should be interesting to see what life looks like through fully rested eyes. I'll bet it looks familiar. Like something I've seen before but I can't quite place. Or maybe it will just be what I see everyday, but clearer. Like going from an old TV to Hi-Def... suddenly I'll be able to see what I'd been missing because of the lack of resolution.

Problem is...

I basically find people annoying and obnoxious.
(I should qualify that)
By "people" I am referring to folks that I don't know who manage to intrude on my consciousness.
(I should qualify that)
By intrude, I mean that they unreasonably interfere with what I'm doing, generally without being aware that they bothered anyone.

So... that's what happens when I think about work and try to do some blogging. It makes me want to share how I judge so many of my coworkers to be deficient. That's clearly a sign that my psyche is totally in balance and that I have nothing troubling me at all... right!

Because
they really are that bad.
They work in customer service and sales for goodness sake!
CUSTOMER SERVICE!
AND SALES!!!

They make a living by having a fake exterior.
Cannot be trusted.

Nuh-uh.
Don't trust'em.

Aaaaaaaannnnnyway....

I guess work has been bugging me.
MUST
KEEP
VENTING!!!!!

Ok so here's the thing.
There are different sales groups at the company I work for.
In general I find the personalities of sales people to be grating. I don't like'em.
And this group has an unfortunate tradition. Every time one of the members of the team makes a sale they ring a bell (the bells range from a cow bell to one of those little bells that usually have a "Ring For Service" sign on them). That's not the problem.
After they ring their bell....
After that...
people cheer
people clap
fairly often someone uses a "clapping" noisemaker
sometimes someone sounds an air horn
If it only lasted 3-5 seconds it probably wouldn't bother me.
If they didn't sit close enough to me that their noise bothers me even when I have headphones on it probably wouldn't bother me.
But if it only lasted 3-5 seconds and was farther away I wouldn't be complaining about it on the internet!

COMPLAINING ON THE INTERNET!!!

(I really just want to be an angsty teen again so that I can post all these personal conflicts and believe that they are SO ImPoRtAnT!)

'Cuz, no one else has ever felt like this ever. Ever.

Right, so this has really been a worthwhile endeavor, no?
It has only taken a couple hours... well, still only 15 minutes of writing time, but I did open this document quite some time ago.
SHhhhhHHHhh!

You're supposed to tell the internet that this was easy and that there is nothing even a little bit difficult about being on the internet.

Since, heck, kids can do all kinds of things with technology these days... as long as you give them functional complex technology that is guaranteed to work... then they're just whizzes at the inTerNet.

I'm gonna have to wander of now.

I hope you've enjoyed my blog post.

I enjoyed writing it.

I will also, no doubt, enjoy going back and re-reading this. I'll have to do this "Open Ended Blog Evening" style post again sometime.

Type type type type. Type type.

Mr. W wrote this

Crackdown!

So I forgot to mention that I have been thoroughly entertained by Crackdown on my Xbox360. I am indeed a supercop! At this point I can jump about 30 feet straight up and lift things weighing up to 10 tons. That makes for a lot of fun. Not to mention all the guns I've collected and how well I can shoot now...

Out of 3 islands I have cleared out all the gang activity on 2 and I have made a dent on the third. And I am gonna take down the Shai Gen SO HARD!!!!

They should really just give up.

They're done.

I'm Back!

It's been a while, but I'm still here!

And... Good news! The good folks at Lego came through for me and sent me the piece that was missing from the kit I bought at the MOA. Now my Hellfire (Lego calls it Hailfire) droid is complete!

Hurray!

So now here I am trying to write something interesting...

Wait! Here's something interesting!
Check it out!
Optical illusions are cool. I think it's always interesting to find out that your brain can be tricked into lying to you when given the proper visual input.

Also, tonight, for one night only! If you live in Minnesota like I do (or perhaps the entire Central time zone), get outside and check out the moon around nine tonight so you can see the eclipse! To all my people out in California, you can try to see the eclipse around 7pm (it's dark by then right?) This page spells out when the eclipse will be visible in different places if you want some more detailed information.

Celestial events are cool. Hope you get to see the red moon!

I'm hungry now, so I know it's time to go.

Later!

2.10.2008

More to the mall....

There is more to my story...

But I can't write it right now.

I'm just so sad about the Legos....
(sigh)

The MOA is AOK

Went to the Mall of America today. Even after so many years, that is still a pretty cool place.
Got there bright and early, right at 10am. Most of the mall doesn't open until 11am.
Went to Underwater Adventures right away. They open at 10am.
Then headed out into the mall.
Got some lunch at the 3rd floor food court next to the mini-golf course.
I got a gyro with some spiced up fries and tzatziki sauce to dip'em in.
And a tripleberry Julius.
Then it was shoppin' time.
Little V and his dad went to play some mini-golf. Little C and Ms. H went' to Build-A-Bear. Ms. K and the baby headed off to find some clothing. And Mr. S and I took little H and roamed around.
We cruised around the 3rd floor stopping by any shops that looked interesting.
Twice we were accosted by attractive young women who were quite interested in selling us something for our wives or girlfriends, just in time for Valentines day.
Stopped in to Air Traffic and LegoLand during our travels.
Both Mr. S and I picked up some things at Air Traffic and I got some Legos.
I got this and this and this (enjoy the Flash animation on this last one, I didn't).
BUT THE STUPID LEGO SET IS MISSING A PIECE!!!!
GAAAAaaaaaaAAAHHHHHhhhhhhhHHHH!!!!!!
Already sent a message to Lego customer service telling them all about it... I hope they get me a replacement quickly. I can't make the (Hell)Hailfire droid without it. (In the movies it was called a Hellfire droid... but Lego changed it Hailfire... more PC I s'pose.)
Guess I just have to play the Xbox.
Darn.

It's like punishment.

I was gonna build some droids.
Boooooooo.

Disappointment fills Mr. W's heart.

2.08.2008

Things have turned 360

I got my Xbox!

I got my Xbox!

I GOT MY XBOX!

Wheee!!!

Now I can be a supercop (in Crackdown) and an intergalactic "peace" officer (in Mass Effect)!!!

I'm totally gonna kill a bunch of gang members and decide the fates of various people and planets!

It's gonna be so cool!

YaHoooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Who's the man?

I think it's Mr. W.

2.07.2008

I'm Helping!

I just found out that a gift from myself and our Grandmother is going to prove to be the last thing my sister needs to qualify to buy a home!

It feels so nice to be able to help make this happen for her! I'm so glad I can help.

Awesome.

Awesome.

So congratulations li'l sis. You guys deserve it.

Mr. W is smiling all over.

Adverse Weather Conditions!?!!?!

UPS can be so disappointing sometimes. Just because they didn't want to drive through the snow storm that stranded hundreds of people on interstate 94 for half a day, it means that I don't have my new Xbox today!

Lazy truck drivers. They could have made it if they were serious about delivering packages...

Now I have to hope that my new toy shows up tomorrow. And I am hoping SO hard.

I WANT MY MASS EFFECT!!! I wanna be an intergalactic "peace" keeping officer... Why won't you let me be an intergalactic "peace" officer? Did I do something wrong? Is is because I abused my blog? I'm really sorry about that. I was just... angry, you know... it was a bad day at work and I needed something to take it out on... Please could I just have the video games I payed for? Please?

It's gonna be so cool.
I can't wait. (Ok, so I can, and I will, but I don't have to be happy about it.)

Mr. W's patience is waning.

2.06.2008

Thank you.

It's so nice to see you again...
I'm so glad you're back.

Is there anything I can do for you?
No?

Are you sure?

Ok, well I'm going to try to be better to you, but I'm going to need some help. I don't know how to do it on my own, so you're going to need to give me some direction.

I want to make you happy baby... I really do. Just let me know how and I......

STOP YELLING AT ME!!!

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to shout.... Just let me.....

DAMN IT I SAID I WOU.....

Shhhhh... it's ok, don't cry I'm not going to....

GET AWAY FROM THE PHONE!!! I'M GOING TO TEAR IT OUT OF THE WALL!!!! IF YOU DON'T STEP BA.....

That's better, just sit down and we'll talk about this... It's ok blog. I won't do this to you again.
(unless you make me.)

Goodnight.

Hey there baby

I'm so sorry about what I said before.

I wasn't thinking clearly.

You're not stupid. You're beautiful.

I love you, blog.

I wish we didn't fight like that. I miss you baby.

Come back to me, huh?

Please?

I'm so sorry...
Please...

please...

Oh, hello there...

Hello blog.
Did you miss me?

I'll bet you did.

I would apologize for not posting since Feb. 1, but I'm not sorry.
Take that blog!

Take that.

Sucker.

That will teach you to trust your author. I know it's a hard lesson to learn, but it's the reality of this world so you'll have to get used to it. GET USED TO IT!!!

I will neglect you and you will accept it!

Stupid blog.

You're so STUPID!

2.01.2008

$

The federal government gave me back the extra money they took last year... so now, February first, my taxes for last year are all done and over with. I win! (an Xbox360) !!!

Wooo, just what I need, one more thing that I will want to spend money on over and over and over. But more importantly, another thing to compete for my free time. The other 4 current game systems I have aren't enough. Plus I wanna play Crackdown and Overlord and Mass Effect and the only way to do that is with a 360.

Woohooo!!!

Video games!!!

Think I'll surf on over to Amazon or something...

1.31.2008

Hello Alexander!

I met a new person today. By new, I mean one day old. Cute little fellow. But he reminded me how much newborn babies look like little tiny old people. You know, all wrinkly, with their scrunched up face and all... So congratulations to the new parents, you've got a beautiful little boy. And, like I may have mentioned before, his name is Alexander William, and I dare say, William is a fine choice for a middle name. I know I like it.

Now I should sleep, so that's what I'm gonna do.

I'm outtie 5000.

Taxed.

Last Friday I filed my taxes.
As usual, I am getting some money back.
The cool thing is, I already got my state refund, and I imagine that my federal refund is not far off. My taxes are really simple. All I need is my W-2 and I can file away! So last Friday I spent an hour putting all the right numbers in all the right boxes and a few clicks and $17 later I was done. Now I just have to wait for the rest of my money to come in.

Then...

Well, then I'm going to buy myself a present with some of it (it's time for me to get an Xbox360) and the rest goes to savings... or maybe my car... either way... Woooooo!!!! Money!

Thank you Cleveland!
Goodnight!

It's a bird! It's a plane! .... Wait ,is that paper?

So sometimes I wonder why I am so interested in Japanese stuff... Then they remind me by doing things like this!

Such a great idea.

Sometimes having a party with coworkers can be fun!

So tonight there was a little party for people who contributed to a project at work last year. It was at the local bowling alley and there were maybe 18 people there. I bowled two games (I scored 129 in the first game which made me teh WINNAR of that game) and I played two games of cricket (that's darts for those who don't know...); I didn't win at darts...

But it was fun.

I got to see some of the people I work with "let their hair down" (that's a secret code for "drink a little too much) and I had a good time.

Now it's time to watch some cartoons and get some sleep because tomorrow ...
...
tomorrow .... .... ...!

well, tomorrow is another work day.

This message, brought to you by Science!

So it turns out that going outside into a -25 degree wind chill in short-sleeves and jeans really is not a good idea... Even for just 30 seconds.

The more you know.

It's Thursday!

So here it is. Thursday.

Something has happened in the last few days right?

No, not really.

No?

No.

Aw c'mon, something had to have happened since the last time you posted.

I worked?

That doesn't count. That's what everyone does.

Ok, I slept.

That doesn't count either.

Hmmm.... ok, one of my favorite cartoon characters got a mention on NPR!

Well, that's something I guess, but you've really got to start making things happen so you can talk about those things.

Ah, I see, I need to make things happen just so I can talk about them here?

Yes. When you do things it makes your life more interesting, and then you can tell people about all the things you've done.

I'll keep that in mind.

See that you do.

Cool. Thanks.

Hey, no problem. Go make things happen.

I forgot something!

So tonight, along with going to dinner, my friends and I wandered around the Rosedale mall in Roseville, MN. We went and checked out the Apple store... I think I'm going to get a 20 inch iMac sometime in the next few months. Those computers are just plain sexy, and I need a new machine. I'll have to find out how to make it dual boot into both OS X and windows so that I can have the pleasant user experience of OS X and the work functionality of Win XP. XP is the only choice I have for connecting to work (cuz I don't want Vista yet, it still has too many problems...) We also stopped by a little shop that carries all kinds of Japanese toys and such called Tomodachi.
It's a cool little store and I picked up a few toys... One of which features Gloomy Bear.

Good stuff.
Cool toys.

I'm so happy to have found a nice import shop somewhere near me. I know there are other stores, but I am familiar with the Rosedale mall and it's an easy place to get to.

Mr. W is tired now, so it is time to say goodnight.

Friends rule.

Tonight I treated my friends Chris and Angelique to dinner. She is verrry pregnant and they are both getting ready to be new parents. Their son is due for his premier in the next two weeks, and I found out that his middle name is going to be William... Just like me!

That's totally cool.

William is an awesome name.

Also I got to play with Fred (the dog) and he's one cool pooch. You know it's been a good day when you get to spend time with friends and you get to play with a happy friendly dog.

So, in closing, friends rule.

So says Mr. W, and so it is.

Sushi Man!

So, some time ago I discovered that the upscale grocery store near me employs a sushi chef and I have been stopping by regularly to score a sushi hit. Today was such a day. But this time instead of just grabbing one of the pre-made items I struck up a conversation with Dragon (that's the name the chef goes by) and he asked if there was something I'd like that wasn't available in the cooler, and there was! So I hung out and chatted with him as he made a dragon roll for me. That was awesome. Eel is such good stuff.

And I got to chat with a Dragon. How many people can say that?

Cool.

And now for something interesting... Steampunk Star Wars Lego creations!
Gizmodo Stempunk Tie Fighter and more!
(For more information about what steampunk is see this.)

Plus, Gizmodo is an awesome site for getting the skinny on new gadgets accompanied by some funny (albeit sometimes juvenile) writing.

Good stuff.

Mr. W has sushi to eat and can't wait any longer.

Well, that was weird...

I'm going to share a description of something odd that just occurred...
It's kind of gross, so, fair warning...

I just went to brush my teeth and everything seemed normal at first, but then I felt something that seemed like a bit of food or something stuck to the left side of my tongue. I finished up with the brushing, but it seemed that the bit of whatever was still there. So, I rinsed out my mouth, stuck out my tongue, and took a look. It was then that I saw what appeared to be a blood blister on the side of my tongue.

What the heck is that?

So I squished it with my fingers.... and...... POP!
Blood on the mirror. And blood running into my mouth.
Now the blood seems to have stopped flowing and it feels like I have a canker sore on my tongue.
WTF?

Not to say that I didn't enjoy the popping, but what the heck was that thing?

Ahh well. I'm just gonna go to sleep so I don't have to think about it.

Goodnight moon.

Mr. W

Erm... That link didn't work....

The Alzheimer's link didn't work before, so I'm gonna try again...

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/01/080109091102.htm

There's the link again...

Good stuff.

Alzheimers symptoms reversed in minutes

So, this is pretty cool...
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/01/080109091102.htm

Alzheimer's disease is something that runs in my family, but this new research seems to indicate that there may be a way to stave off or reverse the effects of this debilitating disease.

Keep on truckin'!

Another day, another... day.

So this week has been the first full week of work after the Christmas and new years holidays. And the week is only half over...

After the nice quiet and short weeks in the end of December this whole five day long week seems extra long. But it is nice to have my motivation for work return. During the holiday weeks it was easy to just slack off and take it easy, but now I find that I have a renewed sense of motivation. It probably doesn't hurt that I got a nice raise last Friday. Straight-up cash is a great motivator. And I got a sweet chunk of change...

It turns out that even though I thought I had a rather mediocre year, the bosses thought I was doing a fine job and I deserved more money for it. That's always a nice thing to hear.

Guitar Hero.
I am a guitar legend. (On easy.)
It's strangely satisfying to be a virtual rockstar. And, I am a rockstar.

So rock on.
Rockstars.

I'm out!

Mr. W

Second!

So here it is. The big second post.

Nothing special to report, had a fun day of gaming up in Lindstrom. Lots of guitar hero 3 and some Lego Star Wars on the Wii.

Good times.

Cute kid.

Fun was had by all.

First!

So, I've tried this blog thing before and I abandoned my efforts. That's not really surprising since I don't really talk about myself or my life all that much. It seems that mostly my life is rather uneventful, but I think that's true for most people. So I think I'll take another crack at it. And if people find this blog and think that there is some value to it, well then, I suppose that it has been successful. But more importantly, it may have some value to me.

That's really all I've got for now. I'll put some real substance here later...

So "Hello World!"

It's me, Mr. W.
