Ahhh winter

I woke up today and it was already snowing.
It's supposed to snow all day today and into tomorrow.

It's really quite beautiful.
The snow makes the world is so quiet.
So clean and white.

Winter here is so nice.

Sure, it causes some problems... I decided that it wasn't a good idea to go out and play in Lindstrom because of the weather. It's a bit disappointing, it would have been fun to be there today. But even so...

I love the quiet snowy world.

I will be going out into it tomorrow. Regardless of the weather. There are people I want to see, and things I need to do. I can only hope that other people don't feel the same way. Because when it gets right down to it... I can handle driving in the snow. I'm actually rather good at it. But those other people... They drive too fast and crash. Or they drive too slow and make me ever so angry. If I have the chance to be out there with no interference from others I truly enjoy it. Here's to hoping that they stay home.

COLD

You know what?

Temperatures below zero are really cold.
On Sunday it was nearly 40 in the morning/early afternoon.
Then it got colder.

By Monday morning it was -8 with a -30 wind chill.
Now, I like the cold more than most. But that's bordering on absurd.
When the inside of your nose freezes, you know it's cold.

It's gotten a little better. Today it was 3 outside when I woke up. And luckily the wind was gone. So when it got close to 10 it actually seemed kinda nice. What?

On the upside, we've had some good snow so the world is all pretty and white. But really? -30 wind chill?

That's too much.

And I have a cold now.
Stupid viruses.
Laugh now you microscopic monsters. One day you'll pay.
Oh yes.
You'll pay.

*sniffle* *cough* *cough*

Bastards.

One other thing.

I should mention that on Monday, (I think it was Monday) we tied a record high. 74 degrees. Then come Friday the temperature topped out in the forties.

And today, it might have topped out in the thirties. (I was inside all day playing video games so I don't know for sure.)

Ahhh, Minnesota.

How many other places consistently get over 90 degrees in the summer and well below zero in the winter. It's fun to live in a place that varies it's temperature by over a hundred degrees.

ShoW mE the SnoW!

Mr. W

SNoooooooooooooW!!!

So on Friday morning I woke up to snow!
Not much... just enough to cover grass, plants, trees, cars and roofs.
And it was above freezing out so it was gone by lunchtime.

But it was snow!!

YAY for winter!
(I know that's opposite the normal sentiment, but, what can I say. 15 years on, I still love a "real" winter.

So beautifully cold.
So quietly white.
Without the cold, how can you appreciate the warm?
Come on old man! Bring your worst!

** Paid for by the committee for the appreciation of cold and snow **

Mr. W is waiting for the day that the snow falls and stays.
The silent night.

Whoa.

It looks like we have elected Barak Obama as our next president.
I'm impressed.

And happy.

Thank goodness.
There is no longer any chance that Palin will rise to power this year.
I really hope she just goes away.
And that she does not come back.

Stupid has no place anywhere near the presidency.
And there is no doubt that she is the antipathy of intellectualism.

Again. Thank goodness.
It's over.

My ideology won.
I am happy about that.

So happy.

And so relieved.

Yay!

Snow! ?

It snowed yesterday!
Not real snow... it melted as soon as it hit anything. But Snow Nonetheless!
It was really windy, and the temperature didn't get any higher than the low forties, so when the clouds decided to shed some moisture, it came down as light rain, or light snow.

SNOW!!!!!!

I love the snow.
I love the cold.
I love the winter here in Minnesota!
I might be broken... people here tell me I'm not supposed to like the cold and snow.
They tell me I'm supposed to complain about it.
They tell me that I am supposed to long for the day that it gets warmer.

I'm not going to listen to them anymore.
I never really did.

I can't wait for the first time I get to slide down an icy sidewalk!
Or make my car spin around in a parking lot!
Or get forced to drive 30mph on the freeway because the weather is so bad that driving any faster is something akin to a death wish.

Woooooooooooooooo!!!!!

SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

!

Mr. W is going to go out onto his porch and enjoy the cold snap that is bringing the temperature down into the teens (or low twenties) tonight!

I know you don't understand.
But it's ok. I can teach you.

Old friends...

I got this email from my mom.
It directed me to a little forum that is for people who went to the K-8 school that I went to from grades 3-8.
Specifically for people who went there when I did. Or years close to it.
So I went there.
And I found...
I FOUND MY BEST FRIEND FROM GRADES 5-10!

That's so cool.
I hope we still get along.
I would love to go visit him.
I guess we'll see how it goes.

(So Hopeful!)

It's been a long time...

It has.

I know.

It's not that I don't care...
It's just that I'm so busy...
... doing nothing...

So uhhhh.... I dunno...

The sheen has worn off.
My new shiny blog has become old and weathered.
Entropy has taken its toll.

I don't mean to sound cruel but, I've just lost interest.

... not completely!
...

...

... I just don't find myself interested in writing very often. So, there you go. I'll still post. Just not regularly. Unless I change my mind.

It's all over.

Finished.

Complete.

I beat The Force Unleashed.
It's still really cool.
I think I'm gonna play some more even though I finished the story... And the story! It is a fantastic story.

This whole game takes place between episodes 3 and 4. You get to find out what happened after Anakin became Vader and before Luke and Leia became significant.

Awesome.

Awesome.

Take it easy.

A post

I was just poking around the blogs that I try to stay current on, and I realized that I have, once again, not posted for a long time.

The reality is, I write lots of email at work. Also, my job basically consists of typing all day. When I get home I'm not especially enthusiastic about the prospect of typing some more.

So I don't.

Sometimes I send an email or two. Actually I recently happened upon an old friend from college, and I've written several fairly long emails to them. That makes it even less likely that I will make any further contributions to this blog. because, again, TOO MUCH TYPING!!!

But it's Sunday.
So here I am.

I recently decided that I would join a science fiction book club. Then I did.
Now there are a whole bunch of books headed my direction. And to fulfill my obligation to the club all I have to do is buy 2 more books. I think I should do that right away. And then cancel it. Because apparently there is a yearly fee, so if I wait too long I will be charged. And this is exactly the kind of thing I will forget about. So even though I have 9 books headed my way I should buy 2 more... Anyone have any ideas? I used up all of mine on the first 9. By the way, the first nine are:

THE GHOST BRIGADES
by John Scalzi

THE LAST COLONY
by John Scalzi

EMPIRE
by Orson Scott Card

SPOOK COUNTRY
by William Gibson

THE YEAR'S BEST SCIENCE FICTION, TWENTY-FIFTH ANNUAL COLLECTION
edited by Gardner Dozois

STAR WARS®: LEGACY OF THE FORCE: INVINCIBLE
by Troy Denning

WATCHMEN
by Alan Moore; illustrated by Dave Gibbons

SOON I WILL BE INVINCIBLE
by Austin Grossman

THE DARK ELF TRILOGY (3-IN-1)
by R.A. Salvatore

I've never tried reading a Star Wars book before or a Dragonlance/Dark Realms book like The Dark Elf Trilogy, but I'm hopeful that they'll be entertaining.

I suppose whats missing here is something by Neil Gaiman-- I read American Gods and I thought it was fantastic. Is there another Gaiman book like that one? Or really any other sci-fi book that I should check out?

Also, I have been playing the PS3 game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
IT IS AWESOME!
Sure, it has some playability problems, some of the controls are difficult to use correctly. But that doesn't matter. I love Star Wars, and this game fills in a whole lot of what happens between episode 3 and 4. And it is a cool story. You play as the secret apprentice of Darth Vader, a young man who is VERY powerful in his use of the force. And there are many other more familiar characters involved, including Leia, Darth Maul, Shaak Ti, Bale Organa and others. It's really cool, and really fun. I USED THE FORCE TO MAKE A STAR DESTROYER CRASH INTO A PLANET!!!! This game makes you feel POWERFUL!

It's awesome.
Period.

huh? Oh, I'm hungry.
Time to go.

Have fun everybody!
